The first time we saw Stoney LaRue , he joined Cross Canadian Ragweed on stage at our big "Billy Bob's On the Road" show at the Texas Stampede Rodeo. That's one thing we love about the Red Dirt (Texas/Oklahoma) singer/songwriter fraternity each of the artists mentor the up-and-coming talent. We were instant fans. When Stoney took the stage for this "Live at Billy Bob's recording it was a special night...his birthday. Fans were treated to his absolute best. A charismatic performer, LaRue's flawless vocals left the crowd speechless one minute and had them singing with him so loudly the next that you couldn't hear anything else! This recording has an energetic spark of songs he has written or co-written with some favorite "Red Dirt" artists like Cody Canada and Mike McClure, combined with nostalgic cover songs from an era before Stoney was born. Lefty Frizzell's 1959 #1 hit "Long Black Veil", "The Weight" from the bands, 1968 Album, and the Dylan-penned "Forever Young" are songs LaRue performs with passion only matched by original artists. You'll hear the name "Stoney LaRue" for a long, long time...hopefully here at Billy Bob's Texas, where the biggest names in Country play every weekend.
